The Pendragon Legacy
A Legacy Begins
Kami:
OMG! I used Galen’s DNA by mistake! He’s not going to be happy about this.
Kami: But my experiment
worked! I created life!
Kami: Cripes, where am I going to
put you little man? Better call Nursery’s
R Us for an emergency installation.
Nursery’s R Us arrived
and quickly converted the downstairs bedroom.
Kami: There you go little
man. Best I go wait for your daddy to
come home and face the music.
Galen arrived home as
Kami was heading out to feed the chickens.
Kami: Hi Honey! How was work you must be exhausted? Can I get you anything? Coffee?
A nice meal?
Galen: What’s going on? You are up to something, I can tell.
Kami: Ok. Just don’t get too mad with me, promise?
Galen: Just tell me, it can’t be that bad.
Kami: So.
You know I’ve been experimenting with fish DNA. Well today I was trying to clone the koi DNA
again and, well, something went wrong.
Galen: You created a radioactive
mutant killer koi?
Kami: Urm no. Worse.
Galen: How can it be worse than a
radioactive mutant killer koi!
Kami: I got the DNA samples mixed
up and…
Galen: You didn’t do what I think
you did?
Kami: Urm. Congratulations you’re a daddy?
Galen: Where is it?
Kami: HE is in the spare
room. You aren’t too mad at me are you?
Galen: Just don’t talk right now
Kami.
As Galen headed to
the new nursery Kami went to feed the chickens.
Kami: Oh baby chick, what if he
is so mad he never wants to see me again!
I couldn’t bear it if he left me!
What am I to do?
Tears fell softly
down Kami’s cheeks as she cuddled the little yellow chick.
Galen stood over the
new cot watching as his clone slept. The
anger he had first felt melted away as he watched the sleeping child. He knew Kami would not have purposely used
his DNA. Fate had mixed up the samples
and given them a gift, and that gift should be cherished.
Galen: Welcome to the family
little man.
Galen washed up and
got changed out of his work clothes. As
he made his way downstairs he heard the child stirring. Kami had still not returned from feeding the
chickens and Galen began to worry.
Galen fed and bathed
the child making sure he was clean and happy.
Galen: Best I go find your mummy
little man. I think she might be hiding.
After settling his
new son into the crib Galen headed out to find Kami sobbing by the chicken hut.
Galen: Come inside love, you’ll
catch your death.
Kami: I’m sorry Galen, please don’t
leave me.
Galen: Leave you? Now why would I do that? Please, come inside.
Galen held out his
hand to Kami and lead her back into the house.
Kami: I have no words Galen. Really I didn’t mean to do it.
Galen: I know, and I’m not
mad. You gave me a great gift when you
became my wife and now you have given me another. We are blessed Kami.
Kami: Oh Galen, thank you! I love you!
Galen: And I you witchy.
Galen: So. Has my little clone got a name?
Kami: Oh, I hadn’t thought. I was just so worried about what you might
say.
Galen: Then I would like to call
him Julian. If you like it of course?
Kami: It’s perfect.
Kami: And you’re really not mad?
Galen: Let me show you just how
not mad I am!
Kami: *giggles*
As Kami relaxed in a
nice hot bath she heard Julian start crying.
She was just about to get out when she heard Galen shout.
Galen: Don’t worry babe, I’ll go.
Kami smiled to herself
and leaned back into the warm water.
Galen: Hey Julian. How is my handsome little man today?
Galen was thoroughly
enjoying his new Daddy duties and was keen to tend to Julian’s needs as often
as possible.
Although he still
made time for his beloved pets.
He also enjoyed
helping Bonehilda out with the laundry.
Well, until the
static incident that is!
Bonehilda’s presence
has become even more invaluable with the arrival of Julian. It allowed both Kami and Galen to continue
their careers without having to worry about his care.
Kami was spending a
lot of time in the garden. Despite the
plants being dormant over winter, Kami still liked to go out and check them to
make sure that they were not withering.
Galen worried about
how much time Kami was spending outside in such cold weather. She had been suffering lately with some kind
of flu. She was off her food, tired all
the time.
And when she did
manage to eat she just couldn’t keep it down.
Kami brushed off his
worries and still kept on working.
Julian was loved as much as if he were born to Kami and Galen and when
his birthday arrived they were both very excited.
There had been cake
and candles and a very handsome toddler had spun into existence. Kami’s parents had sent Julian a special doll
to keep him company and wished they could visit soon and meet their new
grandchild. Despite Kami’s worries over
the toy she saw how much Julian loved it and couldn’t bring herself to part him
from it.
Kami: You are my special gift
Julian. Mummy is so proud of her big
boy.
Kami swung Julian
high up in the air and was greeted by fits of giggles from her son.
Kami’s flu seemed to
have passed and she was back out in the garden again. This time trying to fend off the hungry
zombies, who had decided that her high quality plants were some kind of
afterlife buffet.
Kami tried blasting
them with magic to keep them away to no avail.
Kami: Why won’t you die!
Zombie: I’m already dead.
Kami: Ah.
However Winter did
leave its mark on the more unsuitably dressed zombies.
Julian was growing up
fast. A genie like his father he soon learnt
to talk but still seemed to need more work on his other skills.
Galen decided that
potty training was a priority and set to work.
Julian: Daddy? Do you have to watch?
Galen: Just making sure you’re
doing it right son.
Julian: How wrong can I get it!
Galen bought Julian a
walker to try and improve his walking skills.
However he was more
interested in the buttons than in walking.
Julian: Star goes squeak!
*giggles*
Kami had discovered
the reason for her ‘flu’. She and Galen
were expecting a child.
As Kami helped Julian
with his blocks she explained that he was going to have a new baby brother or
sister.
Kami: So, are you excited to have
a new brother or sister?
Julian: Do I get to pick? I’d rather have a brother.
Kami: I’m afraid not baby boy.
During bath time
Julian had more questions.
Julian: Will my brother come from
the machine like me?
Kami: No honey. This baby is growing inside of mummy.
Julian: Why didn’t I grow inside
of you mummy?
Kami: You were a special gift my
darling. You have a unique bond to daddy
that your brother or sister will never have.
Julian: You mean brother.
Kami: Maybe.
Julian: But I said I want a
brother!
Kami: *sigh*
Since Kami told Galen
of her pregnancy he walked around with a permanent grin on his face. He had never thought he was ready for
children until Julian had unexpectedly appeared in his life, and now he couldn’t
wait for his second child.
The cold weather
seemed never ending and Kami was worried that her plants would suffer.
Galen was reading
pregnancy books to make sure that he was prepared for what was to come. Julian had been easy but this was a whole new
kettle of fish!
Julian was going
through a difficult phase and was refusing to let Bonehilda tend to him.
Which
meant Galen was having to get up at all hours to see to his son.
Julian: Daddy!
Galen: Now son. Why won’t you let Bonehilda pick you up? She is here to look after you.
Julian: She is all cold and bony.
Kami followed Galen’s
example and read the pregnancy books he had bought. She wouldn’t admit it but she was quite
scared at the prospect of having her first child.
With work suspended
due to her pregnancy, Kami took over the task of teaching Julian his skills. It was not going smoothly
Julian: Where’s daddy?
Kami: He’s working honey.
Julian: But I can’t poop without
daddy here.
Kami: There you go honey, walk
for mummy.
Julian: Nope. Need daddy.
Even Bonehilda was
having more luck than Kami.
Galen: Hey Bonehilda, where’s
Kami?
Bonehilda: She went for a lie
down sir. This little chap has been causing
quite a stir!
Galen: Julian?
Julian: Hey daddy.
Kami tried not to
worry, but she felt that Julian didn’t want to be with her. She hoped that once the pregnancy was over he
would be okay again.
Meanwhile, Galen
tried to teach Julian to walk. He
worried about Julian’s attitude to Kami, but like her blamed it on the
pregnancy.
Kami was near her due
date and nerves had kicked in. She had
had scans and knew all was well but was still anxious. The doctors had told her that there was a
strange shape on the scan last time she had gone. Nothing to worry about they said, but who
wouldn’t worry?
Kami sat staring out
into the star spattered sky, and made a wish.
Kami: Please let my baby be okay.
Kami watched as
Julian played with his dolls house.
Julian: Mr Man, I’m scared. Mummy has my new brother growing in her tummy
and I didn’t grow that way. Does that
mean mummy wont love me as much?
Kami held back tears as she approached
her son. She finally realised why he had
been so awkward towards her. She scooped
him up and help him tight.
Kami: My baby boy. Mummy will always love you just as much as
any brother or sister you may have.
Julian: But I didn’t grow in your
tummy like my brother.
Kami: No, but mummy made you all
the same. Don’t ever forget that you
were a special gift to me Julian and I will always love you.
Julian: Love you too mummy. I need to potty now.
Kami took Julian to
the potty and was overjoyed when she realised that he had learnt to potty on
his own.
Kami: Oh baby boy, I am so proud.
Julian: Thank you mummy, but a
little privacy please?
By the end of the
evening Kami was feeling quite uncomfortable.
Her back was hurting more than usual and she had strange pains in her
abdomen. She was worried but still put
Julian to bed and read him a story.
As Kami and Galen
prepared for bed the pain became unbearable.
Kami: Galen! I think it’s time, we need to head to the
hospital.
Galen: Are you sure?
You’ve been complaining for a couple of days now.
Kami: Look, I know you are tired,
I am too but it’s time to go!
Kami: Arrrggghhhh!
Galen: Fine. But I have work in the morning you know. If this is a false alarm I will not be happy.
Kami: Believe me Galen, if I was
not in so much pain right now I would kick you!
Galen: Well come on then, hurry
up. You wanted to go to the stupid
hospital.
Kami: *’#;#’[=
Galen: Are you sure this is necessary?
Kami: Are you coming to help with
the birth of your child or what!?
Galen: *gulp* coming!
